Sex tourism

Sex tourism refers to traveling for sexual activity, particularly with prostitutes. The World Tourism Organization defines it as “trips organized from within the tourism sector, or from outside this sector but using its structures and networks, with the primary purpose of effecting a commercial sexual relationship by the tourist with residents at the destination”. Prostitution laws of the destination country are applicable for sexual activity involving adult prostitution. However, when the sexual activity involves child prostitution, non-consensual acts, or sex trafficking, it is often illegal both in the visiting country and the individual’s home country. Sex tourism travel could either be domestic or transnational, and it is a multibillion-dollar industry that supports millions of people and service industries like airlines, taxis, restaurants, and hotels. Popular destinations for sex vacation tourism, both for males and females, include Thailand, the Dominican Republic, Greece, Jamaica, and many other countries.
